How We Design Watches with Meaning: An Inside Look at the XXIV Creative Process

In a world filled with things that look the same, we wanted to create a watch that felt unmistakably ours, something rooted in meaning, shaped with intention, and designed to hold the quiet luxury of everyday life. The XXIV Collection, our founding piece, began not with metal or movement, but with an idea: the 24 hours you move through each day, and the belief that time becomes more beautiful when you choose to notice it.

Designing XXIV started with a question: What would it look like if a watch could carry a philosophy? Not as a slogan or a symbol, but embedded into its very structure. The answer came from the Roman numeral 24—XXIV. A timeless, elegant form. A soft geometry. A reminder of the day’s full arc. From there, the watch didn’t begin as a product; it began as a meaning.

We imagined a bracelet made not from standard links, but from repeating XXIVs, each letterform curving into the next, creating a seamless chain. It was an idea that felt both classic and quietly rebellious: a silhouette inspired by vintage jewelry watches, but with a conceptual twist that made it unmistakable. Yet the idea was far easier than the execution.

The challenge was in the curves. Roman numerals were not designed to link together. They were not meant to bend, interlock, or form the gentle drape of a bracelet. Our early sketches looked rigid, overly sharp, too structural. The letters refused to soften into a wearable form. But we kept returning to the meaning behind the design—the 24 hours, the poetry of the numerals, the idea of carrying time as something personal rather than mechanical. That meaning kept us searching for the right shape.

Slowly, the forms evolved. We reshaped the edges of the Xs, softened the angles of the Vs, and carved the I so it sat comfortably within the rhythm of the chain. Each curve was adjusted millimeter by millimeter until the bracelet felt fluid, a continuous ribbon of numerals that wrapped elegantly around the wrist. It was a puzzle: how do you take something fixed and historical, and teach it to move with the softness of jewelry?

In the process, the watch became something rare for today: a truly vintage-inspired bracelet watch, not in imitation but in spirit. Petite, delicate, and intentionally designed to look more like jewelry than a timekeeping device. A watch this small is uncommon in modern design, where oversized and bold silhouettes still dominate. But we believed in the quiet power of smallness, how a petite case sits closer to the skin, how it layers beautifully with your own jewelry, how it makes time feel personal rather than performative.

We grounded the design in craftsmanship that matched its emotional core. A Swiss-made movement for precision. 316L stainless steel for durability and refined shine. Gold plating with depth, not brightness. And proportions studied from vintage archives, where watches were intimate objects rather than statements.

But at the heart of XXIV remains its first principle: meaning before form.

We don’t design shapes and then assign them symbolism. We begin with a story: how we want the piece to make someone feel, what moment it should capture, what idea it should hold. The form emerges only after the meaning is clear. This is why XXIV doesn’t look like anything else. It wasn’t designed to fit into a category; it was designed to express a thought.

Today, when someone wears XXIV, they’re not just wearing a watch. They’re wearing the 24 hours that shape their life, the hours they want to remember, the ones they move through with intention, the ones that become their archive.

Designing with meaning is slower, more challenging, and often more intricate. But it creates objects that resonate. Pieces that feel lived with. Pieces that feel like they were made for someone, not for everyone.

XXIV is our tribute to time as something you hold close. And it’s only the beginning of how we plan to design at Archive 24: always from the inside out. Story first, form second.
